Competitiveness cluster

The Basque Country has a solid industrial base, with a sector that represents 24% of GDP, constituting an attractive competitiveness cluster in which there is a firm commitment to Industry 4.0.

Basque industry has consolidated its commitment to efficiency, quality, technification and internationalisation, thanks to the industrial policy developed by the institutions. A good example of this are the clusters and their high levels of competitiveness, based on private collaborative management models.

The Basque Country is currently focusing its efforts on Smart Specialisation, identifying those areas in which to concentrate human and economic R&D&I resources; these are three areas that have been identified as strategic: Advanced Manufacturing 4.0, Energy and Biosciences for health.

Faced with the so-called fourth industrial revolution, Basque industrial companies are already working on the extension of excellence beyond metal-mechanical manufacturing, the mastery of new materials, the design and development of their own products, the incorporation of high added value services, the incorporation of ICTs and the integration of value chains, in other words, Industry 4.0.
